The Lancet Neurology Autoimmune Disorder Conference

Speaker

Melike Lakadamyali, Advanced Fluorescence Imaging and Biophysics Group, ICFO, Spain

Melike LakadamyaliMelike Lakadamyali obtained her BS degree in physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. In 2006, she earned her PhD degree in physics at Harvard University under the supervision of Professor Xiaowei Zhuang. During her PhD she developed real-time, quantitative, fluorescence microscopy methods to visualise the infection mechanism of influenza virus in living cells. She joined Harvard’s Center for Brain Science as a postdoctoral fellow working in the group of Professor Jeff Lichtman. During this time, Dr Lakadamyali gained expertise in the super-resolution fluorescence microscopy methods and applied these methods to image neuronal connectivity in multiple colours and in 3D. She joined the The Institute of Photonic Sciences (Institut de Ciències Fotòniques; ICFO), Barcelona, Spain as a Group Leader and Nest Fellow in 2010, where she continues her work in the area of single molecule biophysics and super-resolution fluorescence microscopy. She is particularly interested in developing and applying advanced fluorescence microscopy methods to understand biological processes, ranging from cargo transport to gene regulation, at the molecular scale.
